Selecting the right Equipment for a job

Proper equipment selection is very crucial to achieve efficient earthmoving and construction operations. Usually, this task is done by the Project Manager with the right skills in identifying the right machines for the job.

The selection starts by considering the machine’s operational capabilities. These means that a thorough machine specification review should be done. And these details can be found on the Caterpillar Performance Handbook.

The next step is to check with the equipment availability when selecting a machine for a particular task. The manager should visualize how best to employ the available equipment based on soil considerations, zone of operation, and project-specific requirements.

Lastly, once the right equipment is selected, the manager will calculate production estimates to help him quantify equipment productivity through forecasting.
